St Luke's Time Bank is a local project which encourages EC1 residents to volunteer their time using a community time bank, earning 'time credits' which they can then 'spend' on a service or skill offered by another member. Every person can do something that someone else would find useful: shopping for someone who is housebound, dog-sitting during a hospital appointment or helping a neighbour with their garden. It is not possible to get into 'debt' with Time Banking, and everyone's contribution is valued and welcomed equally.
The Time Bank is committed to supporting local people in building a stronger community, through the exchange of skills, talents and time! As well as providing 'volunteering' oppourtunities, the Time Bank enables participants to access help and services they may not otherwise be able to afford. The Time Bank can help get things done, and reinforce a sense of local pride and ownership in the community.
At this website you can join the Time Bank using the 'create new account' button. You can also meet other participants using the forums - so get started and get exchanging!
The Time Bank is based in St Luke's Centre, 90 Central Street, London EC1. Participants or anyone interested in the Time Bank are welcome to pop in during office hours, or phone and email. The centre is a local resource for older people, and offers a range of classes and activites as well as a hot 3 course lunch every weekday for just £3.
St Luke's Time Bank is a participant-led project, which means participants decide on activities and events. The Time Bank broker supports participants in achieving their goals and getting things done.
